Perma Pure Fuel Cell Humidifiers for Remote and Backup Power

9th May 2005

Leading gas conditioning products manufacturer Perma Pure LLC introduces the FC™-Series of fuel cell humidifiers.  These compact units offer water management essential to the operation of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells in a range of sizes for stationary power applications.  Proven reliability and simple design are ideal for use in residential power generation and backup power units.

In PEM fuel cells, where the incoming gas must be humid, FC-Series humidifiers provide self-contained, reliable humidification.  The humidifiers recover water from the fuel cell exhaust and transfer it into the incoming gases by permeation through the walls of Nafion® tubing, a proprietary technology available only from Perma Pure under license from the polymer manufacturer, DuPont.

With no moving parts to fail or leak, FC-Series humidifiers provide the reliability critical to backup power generation systems.  The lightweight devices are available in a range of models which can be scaled to fit any size application, up to several hundred kilowatt capacities.  The units do not require any power to operate, so there is no parasitic power drain, a shortcoming of many alternative humidifier technologies.

FC-Series humidifiers are self-limiting and require no controls.  In addition to moisture exchange, Perma Pure’s humidifiers simultaneously function as heat exchangers, recovering waste heat as well as water from the exhaust.  Selective permeation ensures that there is no crossover contamination between the exhaust and incoming gases.

Perma Pure LLC, a member of the world-wide Halma Group, manufactures gas conditioning products such as dryers, humidifiers, filters, coalescers, specialty scrubbers and complete sampling systems for use in medical, industrial and scientific applications.  The company’s dryers and humidifiers incorporate proprietary technology based on the unique properties of the Nafion® polymer.  The company is the sole manufacturer of Nafion tubing under license from the polymer manufacturer, DuPont.  The company is based in Tom’s River, New Jersey and has representatives and distributors around the world
