Heavy Duty Fuel Cell Humidifiers from Perma Pure for High Pressure Automotives 11th May 2006

As fuel cell technology develops and more applications turn to this energy source, the need for efficient fuel cell humidification has increased.  For demanding heavy duty automotive applications, Perma Pure has introduced the FC-400 High Pressure fuel cell humidifier.  Part of the company’s FC™-Series, it provides durable, self-contained humidification in a package that withstands the temperature, corrosion and high operating pressures of automotive fuel cells.

The FC-400-2500-10HP recovers water from the fuel cell exhaust and transfers it into the incoming gases by permeation through the walls of Nafion® tubing, a proprietary technology available only from Perma Pure under license from the polymer manufacturer, DuPont.  This unique design does not require any power to operate, and has no moving parts that can fail.  Humidification is self-limiting to prohibit condensation in the fuel cell’s tubing.

Constructed of polyphenylene sulfide, the FC-400-2500-10HP withstands high operating temperatures (up to 100°C) and resists corrosion often found in automotive and heavy machinery PEM fuel cells.  The unit operates efficiently under conditions of up to 40psig and 1000lpm.  Additionally, the humidifier is shock resistant for use in rugged vehicle applications.
