Preparing Gas Samples For Electrochemical Sensors 4th June 2004

Electrochemical sensors (ECS) suffer reliability and maintenance problems when gas samples have a relative humidity of over 85 per cent.  The new Micro-GASS™ Gas Analysis Sampling System from Perma Pure® reduces the water content of gases from humid environments to optimal humidity for ECS.  It does this without altering the concentrations of analyte gases such as hydrogen sulphide, chlorine, or methane in the samples.

Chiller/condensers remove water by condensation, so water-soluble gases are lost when they dissolve in the condensate.  The Micro-GASS system removes water directly from the vapour phase instead, using patented Nafion® membrane gas dryers.  The membrane selectively removes water vapour without removing water-soluble analytes.

Drying is a continuous, self-regenerating process.  No routine maintenance is required as the dryers are ruggedly constructed of corrosion-resistant materials and have no moving parts.  A built-in pump draws the sample to the ECS and also continuously removes water vapour from the dryer.  The system is mounted in a small, environmentally sealed enclosure and requires only electricity to operate.

Micro-GASS sampling systems and Nafion dryers are manufactured exclusively by Perma Pure LLC, a member of the Halma Group.  For more information visit the website at www.permapure.com, or e-mail info@permapure.com.
