PM Particulate Matter, Dust, and Aerosol Analysis

Perma Pure offers a range of Gas Sample Dryers that are designed and used specifically for PM, Dust and Aerosol Analysis. The new MD-700 series was dnafeveloped with a large diameter Nafion™ tubing (0.700″ or 17mm in diameter) to minimize particle losses. Our MD Series and PC Series have specific construction options as well. The product selection guide is shown below:

Dryer Developed for Aerosol Analysis

The MD-700 Dryer for Aerosol Analysis was developed at the request of our customers specifically for PM particle measurement and aerosol analysis. In order to minimize particle losses, a laminar sample flow is maintained through the flow path of the dryer using a single large diameter 17mm (0.700”) Nafion™ tubing.
Some basic features of the dryer are listed below:

  • The need for heating the sample gas stream is eliminated, preserving the volitle particulate component in the sample.
  • Grounded Stainless Steel Tube and Shell Construction eliminates buildup of static electricity and provides long service life outdoors.
  • Straight Configuration in 6, 12, 24, and 48 versions minimize turbulent flow that can negatively affect measurements.
  • Dryer is continuously regenerating, eliminating the need to repeatedly replace desiccant.
  • Designed to be used with the vacuum reflux purge gas method where no dry or instrument air is available.
  • Net particle losses are 2% or less or equivalent to the same size and diameter bare tube for particles larger than 50 nm.

Note: A dry purge gas source is required to remove the moisture – see Purge Gas Configurations for options.

MD Monotube Dryer Series Construction Options for Low Flow Aerosol Analysis

The MD (Monotube Dryer) Series can be used for low flow applications under 1 lpm as the flow remains linear.  Note: A dry purge gas source is required to remove the moisture – see Purge Gas Configurations for options.
PM / Aerosol Analysis Special Construction Requirements:

  • 0.110″ Tubing (MD-110) Version for flow rates up to 1 lpm
  • Grounded Stainless Steel Tube and Shell Construction eliminates buildup of static electricity and provides long service life outdoors.
  • Straight Configuration in 12, 24, 48 and 72 inch versions minimize turbulent flow that can negatively affect measurements
  • Net particle losses are dependent on flow rate and have not been characterized for this product

PD Polytube Dryer Series Construction Options for High Flow Aerosol Analysis

The PD (Polytube Dryer) Series are chosen when the MD dryers do not offer the flow capacity required. Note: A dry purge gas source is required to remove the moisture – see Purge Gas Configurations for options.
PM / Aerosol Analysis Special Construction Requirements:

  • Flow rates of 1-20 lpm
  • PD-07018T version with larger tubes than standard PD Dryers specially developed for PM/Aerosol Monitoring offer the best flow characteristics while minimizing particle losses
  • Grounded Stainless Steel Tube and Shell Construction eliminates buildup of static electricity and provides long service life outdoors.
  • Configurations in 12 ad 24 inch versions minimize turbulent flow that can negatively affect measurements
  • Net particle losses are dependent on flow rate and have not been characterized for this product
